Frequently Asked Questions

What causes Peripheral Neuropathy?

Peripheral Neuropathy can either be acquired or inherited. Acquired causes can include physical trauma, disease, or infection and autoimmune disorders. Inherited Peripheral Neuropathy is caused by defects in human genes and can be passed along through different generations.

What is Restless Leg Syndrome?

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a common and clinically significant motor disorder increasingly recognized by physicians and the general public, yet still underdiagnosed, underreported, and undertreated. Symptoms of RLS include pulling, creeping, crawling, tingling, painful, cramping, burning and aching. Research also shows that those diagnosed with diabetes are four times more likely to have RLS than people without diabetes. A common cause of RLS is an often underdiagnosed Small Fiber Neuropathy.

What is Small Fiber Neuropathy?

Small Fiber Neuropathy is a disorder of the peripheral nerves that primarily or exclusively affects small somatic fibers resulting in sensory changes. It is one of the major causes of pain in the hands and feet.

What are some sensory symptoms of Small Fiber Neuropathy I might experience?

Pain, burning, tingling, and numbness can be a few symptoms. Symptoms typically affect the tips of limbs and then move upwards but also depend on what organ is being affected.

How do you treat these conditions?

If a Restless Leg Syndrome sufferer has Small Fiber Neuropathy, our care plans focus on rehabilitation of the nerves and reduction in the symptoms of RLS. This is accomplished by our non-invasive, drug-free, low-level light therapy which has been clinically proven to reduce the symptoms of RLS leading to better sleep and less pain.

Can't I just take medication for this problem?

The extremely powerful drugs dispensed to patients do not treat the nerve damage. They numb the brain to numb the pain. Most patients cannot tolerate a drugged existence but feel they have no other option against this horrifying pain.
